Principle
With the aid of
a solar collector, solar energy can be converted into thermal
energy. A major component of the collector is the absorber. It
absorbs the radiant energy of the sun and transfers the heat to a
heat transfer medium that flows through it. This heat transfer
medium carries the heat off the collector. The heat can then either
be used directly or it can be stored. The most common application
in which solar energy is converted into heat is the hot water
generation in households. The aim of this experiment is to
demonstrate how water flowing through a solar collector heats
up.
